NHS Orkney's MS and MND Advisor attends MS Society Awards in London

Moira Flett MS and Motor Neurone Advisor for NHS Orkney attended the MS Society Awards held in Central London on Friday.

Moira was lucky enough to be announced as a finalist for this years awards which had received an incredible number of nominations and had proved a very difficult choice for the judges.

As one of three finalists in the MS Professional category, she came Highly Commended. Moira’s nomination on the MS website said - Moira always puts people with MS at the heart of her service. She is approachable and contactable despite only being part time and actively looks for ways to better support her patients both internally and also through referrals or linking with the MS Society and other organisations.

Moira is consistently available to people affected by MS across the Orkney Isles and supports the whole family, not just the person with MS. She is constantly fighting for better services and looking for additional funding to enhance the offer to people affected by MS. Moira constantly looks for opportunities to improve her own knowledge and training. She also led the development of a local referral book for people affected by MS which details all the support available to people. Moira is truly a passionate, supportive, engaging and motivated MS professional.

David McArthur, Director of AHP and Nursing said ‘Being nominated for this award is an achievement in itself, however obtaining a place within the top three is really outstanding.  The acknowledgement of Moira’s talent and dedication by the MS Society also indicates the high level at which our Nurses operate throughout Orkney.’

Moira Flett said ‘It was a real honour to be nominated, and to represent Orkney - which has the highest incidence of MS worldwide- at this UK event.   I feel really fortunate to have a job I love, and to work with so many fantastic people and services.”
