NHS Orkney – Team Orkney Awards Night
The winners of the 2024 Team Orkney Awards were announced at a special event held at The Albert Hotel tonight which showcased the incredible talent and hard work by staff and teams across the organisation.
Over 106 nominations across nine categories were received for the first ever Team Orkney Awards.
The Team Orkney Awards highlight examples of outstanding patient care, inspirational support and leadership, excellent teamwork and how living NHS Orkney’s values has made a significant difference to the lives of patients and our community.
2024 winners and finalists:
Clinical Team of the Year (sponsored by the Royal College of Nursing) – this award recognises a clinical team that has gone above and beyond their duties, leaving a remarkable impact on our patients.
Winners – Maternity
Finalists – Vaccination Team and the Obstetric and Gynaecological Consultants
Non-Clinical Team of the Year – this award is for a non-clinical team that has gone above and beyond in their duties to support their colleagues.
Winners – Catering Team
Finalists – Communications Team and the Cancer Audit and Waiting Times Co-ordinators
Values Award – the individual who receives this award is acknowledged for their outstanding dedication to providing secure and compassionate healthcare services to our patients and their loved ones. Their actions will have aligned with the fundamental values of NHS Orkney – care and compassion, dignity and respect, quality and teamwork and openness, honest and responsibility.
Winner – Melissa Lindsay, Midwife Sonographer
Finalists – Leanne Peters, Long Term Condition Administrator and Vanessa Dransfield, Dietetics and Speech and Language Therapy Administrative Assistant, and Iain Gray, Information Governance Manager
Learner of the Year Award – This award is a celebration of a remarkable individual’s abilities. It recognises a colleague who has participated in educational and growth opportunities at NHS Orkney.
Winner – Lyndsay Steel, Lead General Practice Pharmacist
Finalists – Natasha Cooper, Occupational Therapy Assistant and Beth Rendall, Dialysis Nurse
Leader of the Year Award – this prestigious award celebrates remarkable leadership from an individual who consistently demonstrates a positive influence on patients, service users, carers and colleagues while upholding our values.
Winner – Karyn Tait, Oral Health Team Lead
Finalists – Lauren Flett, Senior Charge Midwife and Jocelyn Strawson, Health Promotion Officer
Outstanding Care Award (sponsored by Unison) – this clinical professional has a remarkable impact on the lives of patients, carers, and colleagues.
Winner – Ganesh Subramanian, Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist
Finalists – Anne Gregg, MacMillan Specialist Nurse/Clinical Team Lead and Jenna Graham, Social Worker and Mental Health Officer
Innovation Award – this award recognises a team or individual who has developed or undertaken service/quality improvements, made changes to the way they work, made savings or undertaken research for the benefit of patients, their department, or the organisation as a whole.
Winner – Kate Smith, Lead CT Radiographer
Finalists – Aileen Bruce, Midwife and Susan Small, Heart Failure Nurse
Special Recognition Award – this individual’s unwavering commitment to NHS Orkney is truly admirable, as they continuously strive to enhance the wellbeing of both patients and colleagues.
Winner – Anne Gregg, MacMillan Specialist Nurse/Clinical Team Lead
Finalists – Catriona Flett, Registered Nurse and Gemma Groundwater, Assistant Rehabilitation Practitioner
People’s Choice Award (sponsored by The Orcadian) – this award is an opportunity to recognise extraordinary individuals. It is a chance to celebrate the hard work and dedication of healthcare colleagues who have left a lasting impact on our wonderful community.
Winner – Penny Martin, Paediatric Physiotherapist
Finalists – Olivia Jones Midwife, Anne Gregg MacMillan Specialist Nurse/Clinical Team Lead, Dr Mhari Linklater GP, Moira Ross Crossroads Carer and Hamnavoe House.
