Children and Young Peoples Physiotherapy Service
Who we are:
The Paediatric (or Children’s) Physiotherapy Service covers all of Orkney, and currently comprises a full-time and a part-time post. We are one of the services offered by Orkney Health and Care.
What we do:
We assess and provide physical therapy for babies, children and young people from 0 to 19 years who have movement or developmental disorders, muscle and joint problems, disability, injury or illness. We provide advice, guidance and direct therapeutic and practical support to children, young people, their families, schools, nurseries and sports clubs.
Therapy is provided through play and exercise in a child friendly environment in The Peedie Sea Children’s Centre or in schools, nurseries and at the family home including the islands.
We use the hydrotherapy pool for water based therapy sessions and also use the gym at schools or Pickaquoy Centre as appropriate.
We are involved in the Getting It Right For Every Child process which is led by the Named Person, other multidisciplinary teams and we provide reports for the visiting paediatric consultants and other appointments.
We work closely with other therapists, doctors, teachers, Health visitors, School nurses and sports clubs.
Where we are based:
We are based at the Peedie Sea Children’s Centre in Kirkwall, although we often visit children in their homes, schools or other community settings, depending on their needs.
