**Please visit the NHS Inform website - NHS Inform for information and advice relating to Coronavirus (COVID-19)**
The Public Health department plays a key role in the surveillance, investigation of outbreaks and control of certain infectious and communicable diseases.
‘Notification’ is the term used to refer to the statutory duties of reporting certain diseases and organisms.
Public Health Scotland (PHS) collects information about the incidence of notifiable illness and collates this in monthly reports available on their website. It also provides information on infection control measures.
Vaccines have been developed against some infectious diseases, and more details can be found in the immunisation section.
‘Immunisation against Communicable Disease’ (The Green Book) is available on line.
