Looking after our community and providing excellent care

New Director Appointments to NHS Orkney

We are delighted to share the news that we have now successfully appointed to both our Executive Medical Director post and our Director of People and Culture post.

Dr Anna Lamont will join NHS Orkney in January as Executive Medical Director. A GP by background, Anna brings significant experience and a proven track-record in a number of key areas that are central to our ongoing journey of improvement, including Clinical Governance, multi-disciplinary working, stakeholder engagement and communications and clinical strategy development and delivery.

Speaking about her appointment, Anna said: “I am truly excited to be joining NHS Orkney as your new Executive Medical Director. I have been particularly drawn to the close-knit integration between community and healthcare services here, which I believe can serve as a model for patient-focused care. My aim is to support this dynamic environment by listening to and learning from our staff, patients, and their families, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to work in such a vibrant community and alongside NHS Orkney’s team of dedicated professionals.”

Our new Director of People and Culture, Jay O’Brien will be joining the team in March. Jay comes with strong Board and Executive-level experience and an exceptional reputation in his field, making him well-placed to lead the People and Culture Function in the next chapter of our improvement journey given his wealth of experience in this space.

Speaking about his appointment, Jay said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Team Orkney. People and culture are what most excite me. I am looking forward to working together to foster a strong culture that supports all of us to do our best work for each other and our patients. My husband and I are also excited to experience island life and become part of the community.”
