250 Smiles created for National Smile Month

NHS Orkney Public Health Service would like to thank everyone who participated in the smiley campaign as part of National Smile Month.

Karyn Tait, NHS Orkney Oral Health Promoter said, “We have had tremendous fun with this campaign, catching so many different smileys. Lots of them have been shared on the NHS Orkney Facebook page, helping to raise oral health awareness. In all, we have we have collected around two hundred and fifty smiley pictures from across the county, so, we would like to send a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who took part. The smiley pictures have really made us smile!”

As part of the wider campaign, nurseries were encouraged to share their smileys as part of a county-wide competition. Congratulations to Evie, St Andrews and Sanday nurseries who will share the prizes.

Karyn added “All of the smileys shared with us, including the nursery smileys, are going to be on display at King Street Dental Clinic over the summer. Please pop in to see them, you might spot yourself or someone you know!”

The campaign promotes key oral health messages. These remind everyone to brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, to cut down on the amount, and frequency, of sugary foods and drinks, and to visit the dentist as recommended.
