Please note we are currently only able to offer a very limited number of placements. These placements must fall between May and the end of August and applicants must be studying in the United Kingdom.

Medical Elective

Electives are an important element of undergraduate medical education and NHS Orkney welcomes applications from the UK, EU and international medical students for elective placements at The Balfour.

Eligibility

Those interested in applying for an elective placement should note the following:

• Hospital and specialty availability depends on popularity, other undergraduate student commitments and on the number of consultants available to provide supervision.
• Electives are offered for a period of 4-6 weeks.
• We are currently only accepting medical students based in the United Kingdom.
• International students need to be able to speak English to a reasonable level.
• You must be able to finance your travel, accommodation and living expenses.
• We expect students to have done some clinical training before they can undertake an elective in NHS Orkney.
