Ryan McLaughlin

Ryan joined the NHS Orkney Board as Employee Director in February 2023 following his election to the role. He has been an active trade union representative within NHS Orkney for over a decade, with a particular interest in staff governance and employee health, safety, and wellbeing.

As a UNISON representative, Ryan has held regional and national offices, including as a previous chair of the UNISON Scottish Young Members’ Committee, and the board of the Scottish Trade Union Congress.

In his role as Employee Director, Ryan is co-chair of both the Area Partnership Forum and the Staff Governance Committee. As a Non-Executive Board member, he also sits on the Audit & Risk Committee, the Remuneration Committee, and is a non-voting member of the Integration Joint Board.
